Pokemon Q's and A's

2007-06-08

Or Pokémon, the e is done with ALT 130 according to my daughter.

I am writing this post because I see many PokeyPals coming here for the "PokeyMom" posts I have made about my children's addiction (so it seems but keeps them busy) to the GameBoy games, and their obsession to attend Pokemon events here and there, watch the TV show, or read anything Pokemon they can get their hands on.

I will address some of the things I have seen in my stats here with my daughter's generous help.

Tip: Click on Edit in your tool bar, and type in words to find on this page.

1. Pokemon Events -- happen at your local ToysRUs stores or the like.  You need to ask when.
You can check the Pokemon website for more information.
GameStop franchises often host small events also.  They tend to announce them very close to the event.  For instance, we found out there was one but it was announced only four days before it happened.  To sign up, you had to go to the designated store.  Not all GameStops had this event, it was granted to certain shops based on the volume of sales. (Link below)

2. Pokemon Game Card stealing - yes it happens.  Older smarter and more knowledgeable sneaky players will take valuable cards away from your kids if you are not with them or watching the game.  Look for the "rarity" symbol. Games at local shops have stopped because of this.

3. Cards are sold in packets of 9 for around $5.00 a packet.  Good place to find them: WalMart.

4. In the Pokemon Diamond or Pearl GameBoy Game -- bad eggs are in the third and fourth generation games and from Game Sharking.  They either don't hatch or take a very long time to hatch.  If a bad egg hatches, it can mess up your game.

4A.  A question that appeared in my search stats: My baby Lugia egg for Pokemon Diamond is a bad egg, what do I do?
Lugia is a legendary Pokemon and cannot be bred unless you use a Game Shark (not recommended). Using a Game Shark to breed any Pokemon may result in bad eggs and glitched Pokemon which, as previously stated, can mess up your game.

5. The difference between the Diamond and Pearl game are the Pokemon in each game.  Each game has a different set of three (3) Pokemon but the games are basically the same.

6. Where does Barry (aka Damion, hyperactive blond kid (like Naruto) runs around and bumps into the main character repeatedly.) go after you beat him twice in Pokemon Diamond?
You can find him at Pastoria City after beating the gym leader and talking to the Team Galactic grunt (definition: a common soldier).

7. Does ToysRus still giveaway Mew?
Mew was given out September 30, 2006 as a special promotion.  Other promotions happen so check with your local store to find out if one is coming up.  I wrote another article on this blog about how the promotions work.  (link below)

8. If the Pokémon is in a cave (like Uxie and Azelf), use Dusk Balls. They have a 4x catch rate if used in caves or at night, which is higher than an Ultra Ball. Ultra Balls are still good to use, anyway. You can also try using a Quick Ball first, sometimes you can get lucky and get it on the first try. But for legendaries like Mesprit and Cresselia, you should use your Master Ball because they run.

9. Pokemon Playing Guides (link below) -- my daughter's opinion is that the Prima Publications are not as informative as the ones produced by Nintendo which are lower in price and contain MORE playing information (elite four move sets and labelled maps, maps are not labelled in the pricey Prima Guides).  Nintendo Guides gives you more "bang for your buck", so to say, less pricey, more info.

10. The new Pokemon TV series (airing on Cartoon Network Mon-Thurs 7:30 pm EST) with Dawn, Paul, and Zoey has 12 new episodes in season 10.  Ash is still 10 wears a new outfit and Brock is still in love with Nurse Joy, Officer Jenny and every girl he sees over the age of 15, or so it seems.
They are still wandering.
There will be a new team of "baddies".

11. My daughter highly recommends these sites for reliable information:

Serebii.net

Pocket Monsters.net

Pokemon Palace.net

Bulbapedia - all things Pokemon

GameStop -- link to the tournament page, if not (like they moved it) go to the side bar under specialty to find out where the new page is.

At Amazon: Pokemon Diamond Version and Pearl Version Official Ninetendo Playing Guide and the
Ultimate National Pokedex (Diamond and Pearl).

I will update this post as needed.
Until next time --"pachi pachi" or "pika pika"
