National Cheesecake Day July 30th

National Cheesecake Day July 30th! YUM!

Yes, it is National Cheesecake Day today and my daughter's favorite day also in addition to her birthday!
She is getting the Cheesecake Sampler instead of a birthday cake. Good choice!

Check out my NY Cheesecake Recipe posted last week.

The 12 Kinds of Ads

2007-07-30

We love watching the commercials on TV.  Some make us laugh and others are very boring.

My daughter loves the Cingular ones with the chat speak daughter and the Mom and daughter that sounds like they are arguing but are really having a postive conversation. I have to agree with her choices. The other Cingular one I like is when the Mom finds the minutes tossed in the trash.

The Geico Commercials with the Cavemen are funny.  More on them in another post of mine.

I also like Geico The Tiny House parody of reality shows.

My children think the Head On commercials are funny but obnoxious.

One I saw the other day was for Fabreeze when the lady finds the winter head mask, she sniffs it, sprays it with Fabreeze, and then wears it around the house cause it smells so good, well her neighbor sees what she thinks is a burglar in the front window as she walks by.

Four Eyes -- the guy with the laser vision when he puts on the glasses.  The guy who sees everyone in their underwear, and the old lady who sees the hunky guy instead of her senior aged husband.

The Centrum rainbow vitamins are cute as well as the running Elusive Z's which fascinated my son when he was 3 or 4 years old.

We also really liked this Jumbonz dog treat commercial a few years back.

So today I found this article about
The 12 Kinds of Ads and though you might like to take a peek.  There is a brief description of the pitch and then a sample ad to watch if you wish.

Do you have any favorites?

Enjoy.

Weekend Update

 Tractor Show

Hot, humid, hazy, and lots of thunder storms inbetween.

It was the local country fair but we did not go.
My husband took my son to a Tractor Show.  My son competed in a tractor pull for children using pedal power and won a ribbon not a cute tractor trophy.  My husband said the little kids were really really cute and all were having a great time.

Instead the money for the fair and rides was spent on getting a high top fiberglass cab/cap for my husband's roadside truck purchase off of Craigslist at a bargain price.

He is one heck of a happy guy.
He does not know this yet, but I washed it before he got up.
I am glad one of his dreams came true.

Pet Peeves

Third party invitations.

No thank you notes for gifts.

People who cannot say/speak thank you.

People with no Social IQs and do not have common sense to use everyday manners.

People who say they will do something but do not follow through on their word.

People who have nothing positive to say about anything at all, chronic complainers, people who always feel they are victims of any every day matter.

People who always have to be right and always have to have the last word -- they are usually poor listeners.

Drivers who speed up when they see you at a street trying to make a left or right turn onto the main road.

And last but not least, people who do not laugh at my clever and amusing witty bantering or jokes. LOL

Thanks for letting me vent.

So You Think You Can Dance

2007-07-25

There is lots of talent on that show!

This season seems to be the best so far, maybe because it is the third season and they ironed out the kinks.

Every week, they let two people go and it is so hard, how do you choose, they are all so good. Everyone who made it on the show is a winner though, they made it much further than other contestants did.

The remaining people: Neil, Pasha, Kameron, Danny, Domonic, Jaime, Lacey, Sabra, Lauren, and Sarah.

I like Pasha, Neil, and Sarah the best.

Now the voice of the viewers shall be heard from now on with the cuts down to the winner.
The phone call to vote is a paid call now, not a free call.

NY Cheese Cake

2007-07-22

Put this together the day before or early in the day for a dinner party.

INGREDIENTS

15 graham crackers, crushed (can use cinnamon or chocolate also)

2 tablespoons butter, melted

4 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese

1 1/2 cups white sugar

3/4 cup milk

4 eggs

1 cup sour cream

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

1/4 cup all-purpose flour

DIRECTIONS

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9 inch spring form pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, mix graham cracker crumbs with melted butter. Press onto bottom of spring form pan.
  3. In a large bowl, mix cream cheese with sugar until smooth. Blend in milk, and then mix in the eggs one at a time, mixing just enough to incorporate. Mix in sour cream, vanilla and flour until smooth. Pour filling into prepared crust.
  4. Bake in preheated oven for 1 hour. Turn the oven off, and let cake cool in oven with the door closed for 5 to 6 hours; this prevents cracking. Chill in refrigerator until serving.

You can serve it with blueberry, strawberry or raspberry sauce poured over a slice.

Pokemon Challenge Wii

2007-07-21

No yard sailing today.

We had to go to another Pokemon Battling Tournament at a GameStop shop.
It was a small one with about a dozen people.  They used the Wii system to play off their GameBoys using Pokemon Diamond and/or Pearl.  I think the purpose was to sell or plant the idea, get an Nintendo Wii for Christmas.

My daughter (only girl entered) was winning through the ranks and got to the final battle for the "prize", which we did not know exactly what it was.
Good thing she did not have to battle the "guy in the purple shirt" (hence identified by the younger children in attendance), since he was beating everyone.
She ended up battling with an older guy (in his 20"s) won the first time she played him but in the finals, he got lucky with a critical hit that wiped her out.

She came in second place after about 90 minutes of gaming (they take turns battling each other at levels then move up levels).
We thought this was great because she got a Poketopia logo t-shirt (she called it "goth" because it was black) and a nice bookmark (all players got that).
The winner got a Nintendo Wii Pokemon game valued at $50-60..
Problem was, the winner does not own a Wii.
He was suppose to get at t-shirt too but because the store only got ONE, he did not get that.

I bet he wished he won the t-shirt instead, that would have been more useful (new wardrobe item) to him than a game he cannot play unless he spends $250. for the Nintendo Wii basic system.

Maybe he has a friend that has it and he can play on that.
He was disappointed in a funny way but we all had fun and a few laughs.

My son was estatic because he got a GameBoy MegaMan3 White at a low low price while waiting for the battles to end.

Update 7/25 -- My daughter told me that from her net friends on forums she learned that at other shops there were so many people battling that battles lasted from 2 pm till 10 pm.  Evidently, they only had one Wii going.  So I guess, if there are more in the future, check out the number on the list after you sign up so you get an idea of how many are participating.

Also noted, most shops said both the first and second place winners got Poketopia t-shirts but like us, there was only one at most stores.

Harry Potter Spoiler of Doom

Lookin' for . . .

2007-07-18

An address book (not used) at a yardsale.

Have not found one.

Thought it would be a good idea to put all my internet "stuff" in it, so if I go, someone can cancel all my accounts.

Sad to say, there are too many accounts.

No address books because everyone stores info on their cell phones or computers.

What is this world coming to?  LOL

Plenty of little photo albums I see, maybe index cards in those might work too.

Who Is Working?

2007-07-14

The population of the United States is 300 million.
160 million are retired.
That leaves 140 million to do the work.
There are 85 million in school.
Which leaves 55 million to do the work.
Of this there are 35 million employed by the Federal government.
Leaving 15 million to do the work.
2.8 million are in the armed forces preoccupied with killing Osama Bin-Laden.
Which leaves 12.2 million to do the work.
Take from that total the 10.8 million people who work for State and City governments.
That leaves 1.4 million to do the work.
At any given time there are 188,000 people in hospitals.
Leaving 1,212,000 to do the work.
Now, there are 1,211,998 people in prisons.

That leaves just two people to do the work.
You and me.

And there you are, sitting in front of your computer, reading jokes.
Nice. Real nice.

No comment link in blogs -- Comments Disabled

After the rash of spam events here the past few days I noticed this and I hope it is temporary!

We (meaning ShoutPost members) could click on and read posts in the actual blogs and then click the comment button on the blog.  However the comment buttons on the blogs have been removed at this time. (I am not talking about access from the main page that opens in a frame, it is when you visit the actual blog URL and see the template, archives, blogroll, sidebars, banners, etc)

If you wish to comment on a blog, you need to go click on a topic in the Recent Posts, Hot Blogs (currently off line), Users Online, or go to Categories (click on read more to get to the comment box) on the main page so you can post your message to a blog. This is a work around for those members who may not have turned their comments on but you still wish to post in their blog.  Some may have to be told this is the case or they can read my blog to find out how to fix it, just send them here.

Turning Shoutpost blog comments on.

If you are reading this --> To turn comments back on, you need to go into your

Nickster and Rocky are trying their best to keep things under control during this stressful and dreadful time of havoc.  I am sure they have many many headaches.

Please read Nickster's post about the issues and updates.

ShoutPost Problems

2007-07-12

Anyone else having them?

No access Wednesday afternoon till Thursday at this time 1:50 pm EST.

Messed up my offsite visitors (mostly from BE), they could not see anything and wasted BE credits.
Could not disable those because I wanted to vote in BOTB.  Your blog needs to be active.
Apologies to the surfers.

Had terrible troubles logging in. Dumped cookies, cleared history, cleared files, etc still no access.

Anyone else have these problems? Or is it my computer?
When I asked other people to check the link, they had no access either.

Yesterday morning when I logged in, I got some naughty spam in my comments by a new user who had nothing better to do than be annoying.  I saw where he came from in my stats and thank goodness I have three sets.

The spam was copied and pasted many times into my comments.  That is how this person got to be #1 on the Hot Blogs before, I see, being removed.

Let's talk, Shoutposters, leave your feedback, did you have access/login problems?

Harry Potter

2007-07-10

Tomorrow is the big day!  People have been waiting months!

My husband loves these movies, every time they are on, he is glued to the TV set.
We have them on DVD or video so he can watch them any time.

My daughter likes the books but she only saw the first movie.
If you like the book, sometimes the movie takes away from your own imagination.

I told my husband he could take a break and get away if he wanted to go to the theatre and see it.  I hope he does, gets him out of the house and out of my way.  LOL

The new book is out real soon. Clever marketing.

Goandseeit Disappearance --- POOF!

Crest Spinbrush Pro-Clean Toothbrush

2007-07-09

Crest Spinbrush Pro-Clean Toothbrush

I got one on sale for $5.00 regularly $8.00.

I got the deep cleaning one and have been using it a week to prepare for this review.
There are other varieties to choose from. Batteries (2-AA) can be replaced, a good thing!

My review/opinion is that it is a good quality dual brush toothbrush.  I like the thumb grip.  I do have the Sonicare one ($100. recommended by Oprah as a "favorite thing") but I have to keep on charging it up and it takes forever.  That one I got a few years ago and the Crest toothbrush works much better (better technology and engineering) and a better price, if on sale or bought with coupons.

It cleans up to 70% more plaque than another toothbrush (did not specify what kind, manual, or another battery/chargeable type)

They recommend that the toothbrush head be changed every three months.

I highly recommend it if you need a dentist quality clean feeling for a low moderate priced product.

TIPS: If you are very sick (flu, bad cold, sinus infection), after you are better, get a new toothbrush.

A toothbrush should be replaced every few (2-3) months or when the bristles are no longer holding their original shape.  I change my regular toothbrush once a month and buy a new one if I am going on a trip.

My favorite toothpaste:
Colgate Total Advanced Clean and Whitening with Tartar Protection
I like the cinnamon burst also.
Crest Whitening with Baking Soda is another one I will use at times.

Trivia: February is National Dental Care Month.

Lost Inheritance -- 2.2 million!

2007-07-09

Well, well, well.

I got one of those scam letters from Africa as once reported on one of those TV news shows.
It arrived in my junk mail but I took a look for a laugh.

So I posted it so you can see what I got.

Here is my analysis of the letter.

First off, the email account that it came to, it is only an inbox, I don't usually mail out from that.
It is just a chance I got it because you mass emailed it to various like email named accounts also.

The letter does not address me by name nor would you know my name or email.

The letter is typed all in capital letters, how incredibly rude! Back to Internet Etiquette and Typing 101 for you.

I did a spell check, and they must have watched the news report to correct spellings BUT there is a lot to be said about the poor grammar and poor sentence structure.  Ah, you were not a very good student in English!

Strange how one man who lost his life lost his whole family at the same time and you found ME, the potential inheritor, although you did not mention my name, to inherit the 2.2 million dollars.

Interesting how much information you need from ME before I get or fill out an "application" which most likely will ask for a processing fee, and bank account numbers so you can transfer the money. But then again, if you found me, wouldn't you know some of this basic information (before I fill out an "inheritance application) anyways so why do you need it again?  You don't even know my name.

Interesting that 2.2 million stands to be inherited BUT I would only get 30% of that while you get 10% for business related items like phone calls, and then you get 70%.  Even a US lawyer in general does not get that much from an estate settlement.

But wait, if I fill out the application, you get more info on ME and you also have my bank account numbers which I know you will take whatever I have and empty my pockets then not leave me my 30% of the inheritance from someone who really is not a relative or even a real person!

This line gets me and makes me laugh:
"I NEED YOUR STRONG ASSURANCE THAT YOU WILL NOT CHEAT ME"  you then state you are coming to visit to share the money yet you don't know my name or basic info unless, I fill out the application.

Another thing, is that YOU have limited contact information.

Sorry, you get nothing from me (but grief and a negative blog post) or anyone else who gets educated about your sneaky and unlawful doings.

Readers beware!
That email campaign is up and running again.

Movies No More - a tear jerker

2007-07-03

We went out shopping and I asked the children if they wanted to rent a movie.
They enthusiastically said YES!

So we walk over to the shop only to see it is nearly empty (some fixtures) and closed down with a note to visit their other two shops each 20 miles away from us.  Great.

I knew one of the teens who worked there a year ago and he had told me that they had a hard time keeping a manager there mind you enough help.  So I guess when their lease expired, so did the business at that .

Pretty sad and disappointing for us since summer is the only time we rent movies.
I tried NetFlix and was not happy with the service. (Late, broken discs, no customer service, etc, the list is long for what you paid.)
Time to find other things to do.
